Start

Nikki has always been an active person. She has always had an interest in getting moving. From a young age, she initially developed a passion for dance and it eventually branched out into other areas of fitness. “I have been active my entire life so fitness just came naturally to me. Ever since I was 12 I wanted to be an entrepreneur and open up my own dance studio. Eventually my love for dance turned into a love for fitness, but my end goal still stayed the same. Any chance I had to take an entrepreneurship class I would. Teaching a variety of fitness classes and styles over the years eventually got my business plan exactly where I wanted it to be and that’s how BODI was born,” Nikki says.

Obstacles and Rewards

While Nikki has always had the passion for her line of work, she hasn’t always had the confidence. That has been her biggest obstacle. “The biggest obstacle I’ve overcome is not believing in myself or believing that my dream could become a reality. My husband is how I overcame that. He believed in me and pushed me to go after what I want,” Nikki explains.

Overcoming her lack of confidence proved to be very beneficial for Nikki. Not only did her dream really come true but she also has been pleasantly surprised with many rewards. The biggest reward of all has been seeing her community grow and prosper. “Seeing how successful my gym has become in 3.5 years. Not the money part, but all the people that come to my gym. The community at BODI is amazing, it truly is more than just the workouts,” Nikki says.

BODI

BODI is an online fitness community and a physical studio. Nikki has the opportunity to share her training techniques with many people. While there are many similarities between BODI and Cross fit training, Nikki distinguishes her studio from CrossFit training studios. “We do not do any olympic lifting at BODI. The intensity is still high like crossfit but the workouts are much different. We offer two classes SWEAT and STRENGTH. SWEAT days are your cardio, plyo, agility days while STRENGTH is all about that muscle burn out but it’s much more endurance lifting then crossfit. For example all our weights are under 100 lbs,” Nikki explains. The overall goal of BODI lies in functional high intensity strength & conditioning.

Future

Nikki has plans of continuing to grow and expand her creation and to spread her fitness philosophy; however she wants to keep the focus on quality over quantity.  “Hopefully in the future, I will continue to be known as one of the top gyms in Scottsdale as well as the country. Continuing to focus on community and making each person who walks through our doors feel important. Possibly more locations, but we will see… I’m much more about quality over quantity,” Nikki explains.

Where should they focus most of their energy to get the most bang for their proverbial buck?

Join a gym/group fitness class. Working out with a group will hold you accountable. Also, shop around. There are so many styles of workouts out there and everyone is different. Find something that works for you and that you really enjoy.

Why do you think a person’s mindset is so integral to their success?

You need to WANT to make a change. If you want it you will take the steps to make it happen.

In your opinion, what are the most overrated and underrated exercises?

I think with social media there are so many people trying to create new moves (even if they dont make sense). With that said, overrated would be all the moves that people try to make too complex. While underrated, Pushups, pull ups, planks and squats should be a staple.

What motivational/inspirational books have you found to be most helpful?

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight and Like a Virgin by Richard Branson

What are your go-to snacks when you’re on the run?

Almonds, Oh Yeah Victory Bar

What’s your belief on performance diet like?    Do you prescribe to a particular philosophy on diet (example: Paleo, Gluten free, etc…)?

I just promote eating lean, clean & crean 90% of the time and letting yourself indulge the other

10% 😉
